South West Aboriginal Land and Sea Council

The South West Aboriginal Land and Sea Council is the native title representative body for the Noongar people, the traditional owners of the South West of Western Australia. Established in 2001 and incorporated under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act, SWALSC represents approximately 40,000 Noongar people and has been central to negotiating and implementing the South West Native Title Settlement, described as the largest native title settlement in Australian history and covering roughly 200,000 square kilometres through six Indigenous Land Use Agreements. SWALSC now acts as the Central Services Corporation for the settlement, providing administrative, corporate, financial and specialist services to the six Noongar regional corporations. It supports Noongar members with membership, family history, certificates of Aboriginality and other services, and works to protect and promote Noongar culture and heritage, including through its Kaartdijin Noongar (Noongar Knowledge) resource.
