Yokai
Yokai is the trading name of the West Australian Stolen Generations Aboriginal Corporation, which supports Aboriginal people and families in Western Australia affected by past policies that separated children from their families, communities, country and culture. The organisation advocates for truth-telling and recognition, and supports and empowers Survivors and their families. Services include social and emotional wellbeing and healing support, eldercare, WA Stolen Generations redress scheme support, truth-telling and community development programs, and documentary and media projects. It operates from a site connected to the former Chief Protector's office, reframing places of harm as places of healing.
Who we are
Yokai, the West Australian Stolen Generations Aboriginal Corporation, exists to support individuals and families adversely affected by the policies and practices that separated Aboriginal peoples from their families, communities, countries and cultures. The organisation advocates for recognition and understanding of the truth, and is dedicated to supporting and empowering Survivors and their descendants as they navigate intergenerational trauma. Growing from Bringing Them Home WA, formed after the 1997 Bringing Them Home Report, Yokai works from a site historically associated with the removal of children, transforming it into a place of healing. Its work spans truth-telling, healing and social and emotional wellbeing, eldercare, redress support and community development, all grounded in respect for Survivors' experiences and the ongoing journey toward justice and reconciliation.
