Yura Yungi Medical Service Aboriginal Corporation
Yura Yungi Medical Service (YYMS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service in Halls Creek, serving the East Kimberley including outreach to Ringer Soak. YYMS delivers holistic, culturally appropriate care from before birth to end of life, integrating clinical and preventative programs. Services include general practice and chronic disease management, maternal and child health, sexual health, population health promotion and social and emotional wellbeing, along with family, domestic and sexual violence support, visiting specialists and residential aged care (Menkawum Ngurra). Acknowledging the Jaru and Gija peoples, YYMS provides walk-in access and empowers its community to take charge of their wellbeing.
Who we are
Yura Yungi Medical Service is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service established in 1987 to serve Halls Creek and the wider East Kimberley, including Ringer Soak and surrounding outstations. YYMS acknowledges the Jaru and Gija peoples as Traditional Owners and works to empower its community to take responsibility for their health and wellbeing from before birth to the end of life. It describes itself as 'walking the talk' on better health outcomes, delivering holistic, culturally appropriate care that integrates clinical treatment with prevention and health promotion. Through its clinic, outreach and transport services, visiting specialists and residential aged care, YYMS offers flexible, community-centred access to comprehensive primary health care for Aboriginal people in one of the state's most remote regions.
