Kimberley Aboriginal Law and Culture Centre
The Kimberley Aboriginal Law and Culture Centre (KALACC) is the Kimberley region's principal Aboriginal law and culture organisation, based in Fitzroy Crossing. It was established in 1984 at a Kimberley Land Council meeting at Crocodile Hole near Warmun and incorporated in 1985. KALACC supports the 30 language groups of the Kimberley to maintain culture through song, story and dance, sharing knowledge to keep culture strong. It promotes culturally grounded self-determination and has worked with the Kimberley Land Council and Kimberley Language Resource Centre. KALACC's work spans cultural and language maintenance, social and emotional wellbeing, and justice.
Who we are
The Kimberley Aboriginal Law and Culture Centre (KALACC) is the Kimberley region's principal Aboriginal law and culture organisation, operating from Fitzroy Crossing. It was established in 1984 at a Kimberley Land Council meeting held at Crocodile Hole near Warmun, where Elders decided they needed a dedicated body for the revival and maintenance of language and culture, and was formally incorporated in 1985. Originally based in Broome, KALACC relocated to Fitzroy Crossing in early 1994 to better serve its membership from a central location with a strong cultural base. KALACC supports the 30 language groups of the Kimberley to participate in song, story and dance, keeping culture strong through the sharing of knowledge. It promotes culturally grounded self-determination and has collaborated with the Kimberley Land Council and Kimberley Language Resource Centre. Its work spans cultural and language maintenance, social and emotional wellbeing, and justice.
