Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services
Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services (KAMS) is the regional peak body for Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services across the Kimberley, supporting and representing nine independent member organisations. Established in 1986, KAMS provides advocacy, sector strengthening, compliance support and shared corporate services (finance, ICT, human resources and policy). It delivers social and emotional wellbeing and mental health programs, including headspace Broome and suicide prevention, and operates Kimberley Renal Services for dialysis and kidney care. KAMS also runs remote primary health care, public health and research, and is an accredited Registered Training Organisation building the Aboriginal health workforce across the region.
Who we are
Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services (KAMS) is a regional Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service and peak body established in 1986, originally as the Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Council, formed by a cooperative of Broome and East Kimberley services in response to community frustration with mainstream health care. It transitioned to a public company registered with ASIC in 2014. KAMS supports and represents nine independent member organisations across the Kimberley, providing advocacy, sector strengthening, compliance support and shared corporate services. It delivers social and emotional wellbeing and mental health programs, including headspace Broome and suicide prevention, operates Kimberley Renal Services providing dialysis across the region, and runs remote primary health care, public health and research. As one of Australia's first community-controlled accredited learning centres, its KAMS School of Health trains Aboriginal health workers. By 2025 KAMS employed over 235 staff working to improve Aboriginal health outcomes across the Kimberley.
