Mudjar Aboriginal Corporation
Mudjar Aboriginal Corporation is an Aboriginal-led, not-for-profit organisation in Esperance, led by people from the local Nyungar, Wudjari, Ngadju and Wongi nations. Its purpose is to celebrate culture and share knowledge, promoting learning and wellness by connecting people, ideas and resources. Mudjar delivers cultural education, including its Nyungar Kaditj cultural awareness program, and runs community projects that create culturally safe spaces supporting social, emotional and economic wellbeing. It operates the Mudjar Aboriginal Gallery and gift shop featuring local art and handcrafted goods, offers venue hire, and is developing cultural gardens and a native plant nursery with training for Aboriginal participants.
Who we are
Mudjar Aboriginal Corporation is an Aboriginal-led, not-for-profit organisation based in Esperance, with a board and membership made up of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, primarily from the local Nyungar, Wudjari, Ngadju and Wongi nations. First incorporated in 2002 as the Esperance Nyungar Aboriginal Corporation and rebranded as Mudjar in 2020, its vision is to celebrate culture and share knowledge, and its goal is to promote learning and wellness by connecting people, ideas and resources. Mudjar values good governance, community development, cultural preservation, strong partnerships, sustainable enterprise and member development. Through cultural education, its gallery and community projects it creates culturally safe and secure spaces, and it was recognised as a national finalist in Reconciliation Australia's 2022 Indigenous Governance Awards.
