South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation serving Noongar and other Aboriginal people across the South West of Western Australia. SWAMS provides high quality, culturally appropriate and holistic health care, delivered through community control and self-determination. Its services span general and primary health care, child and maternal health, dental, sexual health, mental health and social and emotional wellbeing (Djooroobidiny), aged care (Bindjareb), disability supports, family and domestic violence support and foster care (Kwaba Bidi), together with community health programs. SWAMS aims to build strong and healthy Aboriginal communities inspired to shape their own future.
Who we are
SWAMS is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation for the South West of Western Australia, one of many such services nationally that embody Aboriginal self-determination in health. Established after local Elders held discussions with key community groups about the need for a culturally appropriate service, SWAMS works to achieve the highest attainable standard of health for and with Noongar people. Its mission is to provide high quality, culturally appropriate and holistic health care that builds strong and healthy Aboriginal communities, and its vision is of Aboriginal communities inspired to build their own bright future. SWAMS is guided by values of being ethical, accountable and open; of culture and respect with people-centred care; and of leadership and professionalism, ensuring communities help shape decisions about their own health services.
