Yorganop Aboriginal Corporation
Yorganop is an Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisation and Western Australia's first Aboriginal foster care agency, established in 1991. It provides foster care and out-of-home care for Aboriginal children, working to keep them safe, connected to family, community and culture, and to grow strong in themselves, their culture and their future. Yorganop recruits and supports Aboriginal and other carers, and partners with government to place Aboriginal children in safe, culturally appropriate homes. It operates on Whadjuk Noongar country and across the Perth Metro, Peel, Wheatbelt and Great Southern regions, guided by the wisdom of Elders and a strong emphasis on cultural connection.
Who we are
Yorganop is an Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisation and Western Australia's first Aboriginal foster care agency, established in 1991. Its purpose is to support Aboriginal children in out-of-home care to stay safe and connected to their families, communities and culture, empowering them to grow strong in themselves, their culture and their future. Yorganop recruits, trains and supports a growing community of carers, and works alongside government agencies to place Aboriginal children in safe and culturally appropriate homes. The organisation highlights that Aboriginal children are significantly over-represented in out-of-home care in Western Australia, which underpins the importance of Aboriginal-led care. Operating on Whadjuk Noongar country and across the Perth Metro, Peel, Wheatbelt and Great Southern regions, Yorganop seeks the guidance and wisdom of Elders and is guided by values of cultural connection, compassionate care, collaboration, accountability and continuous learning.
How we help
Out-of-Home Care (OOHC)
ganop provides foster care and kinship care services for Aboriginal children and young people who are unable to live safely with their parents.
Home Stretch WA
Supports young people transitioning from out-of-home care by providing practical, emotional and cultural support to help them achieve independence and positive life outcomes up to the age of 21 years.
Aboriginal Representative Organisation (ARO)
As ARO for the Department of Communities Armadale District, we ensure Aboriginal voices, culture and family are central to child-protection decisions and uphold the Child Placement Principle.
