Today, James Christian the Chief Executive Officer of the Council of Aboriginal Services Western Australia (CASWA), said he was pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Ali Meehan to the position of Executive Director Strategy, Policy and Planning at CASWA. Ali will take up the position from Tuesday 28 November 2023.

Ali brings varied experience in government and non-government sectors where she has shaped social and health policy. She has spent 18 months working with the Aboriginal Engagement and Community Policy Directorate at the Western Australian Department of the Premier and Cabinet. In this role, she focussed on youth justice, the WA Government’s response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, and the South West Native Title Settlement. Before that, she was the Policy and Strategy Manager at the Aboriginal Health Council of Western Australia (AHCWA) and was closely involved in negotiations for the National Agreement on Closing the Gap.

Ali has also worked in policy roles for the Department of Family and Community Services in NSW and had a previous career as an Occupational Therapist.

James said in addition to strong communication and interpersonal skills and a keen strategic sense, Ali brings an in-depth understanding of government policies and processes to her role at CASWA.

“Ali is deeply committed to supporting the Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCO) sector to develop, lead and deliver services and programs that provide true and enduring outcomes for Aboriginal people and communities,” James said.

Ali added, “I am very excited to join the CASWA team and look forward to working in partnership to build further capacity and influence within the ACCO sector across Western Australia”.
