On family violence, the Council of Aboriginal Services Western Australia (CASWA) welcomed the Minister’s commitment to highlighting positive role models among Aboriginal men and boys as a key strategy in prevention programs. We also strongly supported her focus on innovative service design, developed in partnership with Aboriginal communities and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), to ensure services are culturally secure and responsive.
CASWA reaffirmed the urgent need for greater transparency in data sharing and the overdue release of a funded roadmap or strategy to drive systemic reform in child protection and reduce the number of Aboriginal children in care. Strengthening programs such as the Aboriginal Representative Organisation (ARO) initiative and Aboriginal Family Led Decision Making (AFLDM) will be critical to achieving this.
